Yoga Tips and Tricks
Many new yogis are unsure what to expect from joining a yoga community, so here are a couple tips and tricks for yoga specifically at Yogi Colorado.
1. We don't take ourselves too seriously!
Yoga should be an enjoyable experience. At Yogi Colorado, we throw rules out the window! If itβs not your first class, feel free to knock on the door if you arrive late and we'll let you in. We leave a water station in the practice room, so feel free to get up and grab some water whenever you need it! Likewise, our changing room is available from within the space as well. If you find you need a hair tie or extra deodorant or a tissue - it's available to you during class! The only rule we have is to take your shoes off before you enter the space.
2. Arrive early to get the most out of your experience.
While you can arrive late and get admittance into class, we do encourage you to arrive early. This allows you time to take off your shoes, get situated, and relax for a little bit before class. Feel free to do some light stretches, lay in child's pose or strike up a conversation with others around you! That brings me to the next point:
3. Don't be afraid to make friends!
People who attend yoga classes tend to be quite friendly! At Yogi Colorado, we encourage you to meet other students and to make connections! The practice room doesn't need to be silent and serious. Strike up a conversation with your mat neighbors!
4. Keep coming to achieve your goals.
What drew you to try out yoga in the first place? Are you looking for improved flexibility? Strength? Stress-relief? All of the above??? Like all good things, gains won't happen overnight. Establish a routine and a goal (we recommend 2 - 4 days a week!) to attend our classes. Imagine if you had attended a yoga class twice a week, every week for the past year? Where would your body be???
5. Mix it up!
We offer different types of classes and our schedule is designed to accommodate a variety of those for each of our students. Vinyasa is a more energizing workout, designed to strengthen your body, challenge your balance, and get you moving! Yin, on the other hand, is all about slowing down, improving flexibility and reducing stress hormone (cortisol) levels in the body. It is beneficial to practice both types of yoga to remain balanced. They are truly yin and yang!
See you next time and Namaste!
