Yogi Colorado Practice
I was asked to write a blog about my experience at Yogi Colorado and was so excited! I have been an on-the-mat/off-the-mat yogi for years, but up until becoming a member at Yogi Colorado, I never was able to stick to it. I’d attend 4 classes a week for around a month and then get bored and stop going. Fortunately, I’ve been going on 4 months of practice at Yogi Colorado and loving every class and loving the changes I’ve seen in my body!
The Classes
Firstly, I absolutely love the classes Yogi Colorado offers. I am someone that gets easily bored - especially with things like aerobics or weight-lifting classes. At Yogi Colorado, there is always something fun to look forward too! Whether it’s going to class and getting a special crystal or attending the aromatherapy classes, those get me excited to get in the door! I especially love the rewarding post-savasana cool towels they pass around.
When I attend my first class, I was actually really nervous because I’m not the best at yoga or the most physically fit. But, I had nothing to worry about! My instructor, Dayna, was so welcoming and when I shared with her that I was a bit nervous, she was so re-assuring and told me that it was okay to be nervous and that she’d make sure I kept up with the class. She assured me that she would help me out with modifications and that lots of students would be using them too!
The People
One of the things I absolutely love about Yogi Colorado is the other students! I’ve been to other studios where I didn’t know anyone. I’d walk in, stretch, do the class, and leave. But at Yogi Colorado, I know other students names!!! We all chat before and after class and it’s really really motivating to continue signing up for class, because I have students that are excited to see me when i walk into class. It’s like having a collection of cheerleaders at the gym! Yogi Colorado also does fun things to encourage community outside of just coming to class.
The Benefits
This is the best part. I didn’t realize what I was missing until I wasn’t missing it anymore. Since starting yoga I have noticed not only physical things, but also mental!
Firstly, I am so much more fit. I can do poses and movements in class that I was afraid to try my first time! But outside of class, I notice it too.
I can play with my kids without feeling out of breath and can play with them for longer. I am getting tears in my eyes writing this right now because it’s such a gift to be able to enjoy these special moments before they don’t want to play anymore.
I can skip the elevator at work and go up two flights of stairs without being winded (trust me - this is huge!!!)
I feel stronger.
I have more energy - I don’t want an afternoon nap everyday after lunch.
I am more flexible than I’ve been since I was a kid. I can TOUCH MY TOES!
Mentally, I notice myself being less quick to anger. I notice myself being more patient and letting things go.
Thanks to yoga and especially Yogi Colorado, I am a better mom and I’m a better wife.
